This Silver Spring kitchen remodel began with a simple problem: a great home with a cramped, closed-off kitchen. Multiple interior walls limited natural light, disrupted workflow, and made entertaining difficult. The homeowners wanted a brighter, more open layout that supported how they actually live — cooking, hosting, and gathering comfortably in one connected space.
To transform the space, our team removed all interior kitchen walls and completed a rear addition to extend the footprint of the home. This allowed us to design a fully open-concept kitchen centered around a large island and natural light.
New OKNA 800 Series Deluxe windows were installed to maximize brightness, and CertainTeed CedarBoard siding in Flagstone was carefully matched to blend the addition seamlessly with the existing exterior.
Opening the kitchen required detailed structural planning, engineering, permitting, and inspections. The removal of load-bearing walls and integration of the new addition demanded precision to ensure long-term integrity and code compliance.
This level of structural remodeling experience is critical when expanding kitchens in older Silver Spring homes.
The kitchen now features:
• Shiloh custom cabinetry with refrigerator panels for a seamless finish
• MSI Q quartz countertops
• A 48" commercial gas range
• Custom wood hood as a visual focal point
• Expanded storage and functional workflow
Large windows tie the kitchen into the rest of the home, creating a true gathering space filled with light.
The kitchen now flows naturally into surrounding living areas. Storage is improved. Traffic flow makes sense. Entertaining feels effortless. What was once a tight, dated kitchen is now the heart of the home.
